Yesterday I wrote about my identity crisis and in the "me" time I said I was going to take I tried to start at the beginning by looking at my different business verticals, my "personalities" if you will. I thought if I went back to basics and looked at everything with a fresh perspective it might help me focus. This is what I'm working with:
Laina Turner - author, blogger, marketing for other authors…

Long gone are the days of graduating from college (or not) and working 30 years until it’s time to retire. Getting the gold watch and living your life out on a good pension traveling in your Winnebago.
Our society has changed in many ways where staying with a company until you retire isn’t guaranteed on the employer or the employee end. For me I enjoy variety and have always dabbled in many different things on wide spectrums. However, I think I have now done that to a fault where I’m…

While I love Christmas I also love New Years and all that comes with it. A fresh start, putting a new plan in place, a new Franklin Covey planner (I am tech savvy but I love my paper planner). This week I will be honing my 2013 plan and putting those actions in place to get me there and I'm excited. However, celebration also needs to happen for those successes in 2012. I think many people don't spend enough time to celebrate the wins because of all the things we feel we could have done…

I am excited it is December 1st! December is a fun month full of good food, pretty decorations, and family holidays. It’s also the month for gift giving which I love to do.
Picking out that perfect gift from someone can be a challenge but also rewarding when you see the joy on their face.
What’s your…

We all know that tired cliche but it is true. I wrote a post for my personal blog, Laina Turner, Monday that was about New Year resolutions because even though it is August I desperately need to refocus and get back on track now that my kids are back in school and my summer is officially over. One of the aspects of my business I need to address is marketing. I came across this post and felt it might be…

Ok, I realize it’s August but the summer has been kind of a blur and I thought renewing my focus on work related things would benefit from me setting some resolutions for the remainder of the year.
This summer was amazing. I was able to spend time with my children, I taught horseback riding lessons, took afternoon naps, all things that I normally am not able to do because I am working. I admit it was a little stressful knowing that there was still things that needed to be done and not…

If you're anything like me you sometimes have a hard time prioritizing. It can seem like all the tasks are a priority and that's our mind playing tricks on us. It's not reality. Not to mention it's not possible to get everything done as a top priority. Something has to fall into second or third place on your to-do list.
I came across this good article on prioritizing. Hope you…

A great post I came across.
Recently, I offered a marketing plan review as a door prize for a local business group. When I approached the winner to exchange information, she whispered that she didn’t have a written one; she had it stored in her head. She then asked it a marketing plan was even necessary.
Absolutely! In fact, as a small business consultant, I’ve encountered…

The MS Project is a collection of things created to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. Consisting of a book, a website, apparel, and an iPhone app these elements work together to bring more attention to the disease, teach people, and create a strong…

We all have it. Well at least I like to think that we all have it. I was looking around the house today, at the clutter, thinking about ho I needed to do something about it. Not only is it annoying, I don’t want to see all this crap lying around, but for anyone who has read self help books you now that to declutter your space and your mind allows for new, even better things to come to you. So here are the things that are taking…

There are so many new ways to promote yourself and your brand on the Internet, some of which involve some form of writing. Below, I’ve taken all the methods that I’ve taken from a free ebook I made, to share here in some detail.
Before you start anything, it is important, to have a plan in mind as…

So it's been a week since I quit my job with no back up except my writing and websites. A true entrepreneur. I'm feeling a lot more calm than I thought I word be and I truly feel that's because I'm right where I know I need to be. I'm focused on staying positive, strategic, and staying focused (yes I said that twice because it's that important) to what I want to do and knowing I can make it happen.
What are you going to make happen this week?

Do you believe that you have to limit your company's growth because you're a solo entrepreneur? 'Solo' doesn't necessarily mean small but sometimes we forget to think big.
Solopreneurs don't always consider the long-term plan, including things like outsourcing and developing products. If we think small we feel small, and are more likely to stay small -it's as simple as that. Today I would like to encourage you to stretch your brilliant, creative mind to see your world as you want it…

I am one of those gals who will keep pestering and working until I get the answer I want. So on Friday when I was shaking the magic eight ball I had to go through " outlook not so good, can't predict now, reply hazy - try again, until I finally got to signs point to YES!" So that's where I stopped. I took that…

Life would be much simpler if every time I had a decision to make I could ask the magic 8 ball and just take the path it set me on. I love the magic 8 ball app on my iPhone but life cannot be managed via an iPhone app (although I’m sure Apple is working on it). So when you don’t know what to do how to you…
