What I say every time my dream hits a bump in the road by Jon Acuff

Came across this post today and thought it something we could all stand to hear. Enjoy!

Cloudless skies make for boring sunsets.

Easy adventures make for boring stories.

Right now, if your dream job is taking too long, if your business is not skyrocketing, if your plans are not coming together perfectly, don’t quit.

Why?

You’re writing the best part of your story right now.

No one wants to ever hear this tale:

“Yeah, my book got published without me even trying. I sent it to only one publisher, they loved it, and then I got a million dollars. Whole process took a three-day weekend. The end.”

Ugh. How dull is that story? We love triumph. We love people who overcome the odds. We love people who failed and failed and failed until they finally, after years of blood and sweat and tears, broke through.

That’s what I remind myself all the time.

When I travel for 24 hours to speak for 25 minutes to a handful of people, I tell myself:
You’re writing the best part of your story right now.

When publisher after publisher rejected my book proposal, I told myself:
You’re writing the best part of your story right now.

When I used to take vacation days to pursue my dream, and then fly back to my day job and feel the weight of that cubicle on me, frustrated that things weren’t happening fast enough, I’d tell myself:
You’re writing the best part of your story right now.

And you might be too.

If your dream isn’t working yet, that’s OK. If things are rocky, that’s OK. If you didn’t accomplish nearly what you wanted to accomplish in 2011, that’s OK.

You’re not failing.

You’re writing the best part of your story.

Question:
What’s one delay or bump in the road you hit that you could see as a really interesting part of your story?
